Luck

Business.

What's luck got to do with it? - "luck? I' ve never banked on it, and I' m afraid of people who do. I don' t know anything about luck.

Luck to me is something else: Hard work - - and realizing what is opportunity and what isn' t. " - - Lucille Ball. - if you' re anything like the 400 richest people in the world polled by forbes magazine, none said their wealth was obtained entirely by luck, but a few thought it was a minor factor. How much of your success in business and in life would you ascribe to luck? Unless you' ve won the lottery or were left a huge inheritance by a wealthy aunt, odds are you' ve worked hard to get where you are. All that said, I believe wholeheartedly, however in the power of attracting what you want. If you' re a student of mine, I am absolutely positive that you' ve put a lot of intention, thought and work, energy into your current situation. I believe I am lucky.

It' s like anything else, the more we use it, the more we enhance it, the more of it we will receive. - i wouldn' t say all of what i' ve achieved in life is a result of luck, by any stretch of the imagination, but i would say that i have noticed an increase in luck as i have begun to pay attention to it' s benefits and presence in my life. For the past eight years a man named Richard Wiseman has studied what makes some people lucky and others not. Wiseman is the head of the psychology department at the University of Hertfordshire in England. Mr. He believes after thousands of interviews and experiments, he has finally figured out the key to being lucky.

At their very essence, lucky people think and behave in ways that create good fortune and more luck in their lives in the same way that people who consider themselves money magnets( on the positive side) or freak magnets( on the less positive side) are also attracting what they put out into the world( consciously or subconsciously) . - not surprisingly( to me, at least) this is the same thing that is behind the law of attraction. Playwright Tennessee Williams said it best, "Luck is believing you' re lucky. " The bible says, so shall you, as you sow reap. Have you ever heard anyone say, "I' ve never won anything. In other words, feelings, your thoughts, intentions, and expectations, deeds, whether they be good or bad, will repay you in kind. I' m simply not lucky" ? I' ve heard many people say, "I' ve always been unlucky in love. " Are they ever going to find that elusive love connection?

This will remain the case because this person has made this state of mind their expectation. - no. In researching this idea I came across the blog" How to Be Lucky" at http: //www. problogger. net/ archives/ 2006/ 03/ 14/ how - to - be - lucky/ and found some really valuable pointers on how to increase your luck( ironically or not given as a list of 13 factors) . Because their thoughts are not in congruity with what they want. If you' ve never considered yourself lucky, reorient your idea about yourself and start to draw that into your life instead of repelling it.

So Does Sony' S Latest Entry In The IPod Nano' S Domain Live Up To Be A Worthy Challenger

Business.

Nwz - a726 - review! - ever since ipod revolutionized the portable music player scene, there has been an ever steady launch of products from its rivals as they struggled to launch players that could hold their own against the ipod. So does Sony' s latest entry in the iPod Nano' s domain live up to be a worthy challenger?

Few of them came close and lost and many more bit the dust. - the sony nwz - a726 doesn' t sound as cool as a nano but that' s not its selling point either. Frankly at that size and weight, the player is still a delight to hold and slips easily in to the pocket. At 8 x 1 x 4 inches and 1 oz A726 is bigger and heavier compared to the Nano but does that extra flab translate in to better performance? The 4/ 8 GB built in memory capacity is same as the Nano providing storage for up to 1000 songs. It supports H. 264 and Mpeg - 4 video formats.

The 4 inch QVGA( 320x 240) screen is bigger than the Nano, which gives it a major edge when watching movies. - alternatively you can also view pictures that you have stored on the player. With Mp3, AAC and WMA support it may not be as versatile as the Nano but it covers the most used music formats. Now comes the music part. The playback is smooth and the audio quality is as expected. If you love your music then you will love this player.

Good clean highs, clear mids and tight deep bass. - the bundles headphones are leaps and bounds ahead of the tinny headphones shipped with the nano, but then which headphones aren' t? The major plus point of the player is its battery life which is outstanding If not anything else. Loading music in to it is as easy as drag and drop and there is no iTunes to deal with, which frankly I have never liked. Rated at up to 36 hours for audio playback and 5 hours for video, it crushes the Nano with its stamina. So if you are looking for a great little player which will play almost anything you throw at it and keep going on and on and on, then look no further. Sadly there is no expansion slot for those who like more storage minus the weight of a HDD based player.

Sony NWZ - A726, available in 4 GB and 8 GB variants, is the new top performer and at its price we really can' t complain.

In The End, Its Employees And, The Company The Customer Wins

Business.

Policies and procedures with customer focus - a company' s policies and procedures are a framework upon which a firm operates to ensure efficiency of operations. This is crucial for a firm to consider, as its main business goal is customer retention. While these employee guidelines may serve well a business' s internal operations, there are no guarantees they will satisfy its external goals.

To maintain a competitive advantage in today' s economy corporations must keep their focus on the customers who are the lifeblood of their business. - often the policies and procedures a company works so hard to implement and enforce can get in the way of the achievement of the goal of customer satisfaction. Leadership effectiveness within an organization shows its true stuff when it is able to harness the best qualities of its employees to serve its customers. Improper policies and procedures can stifle an organization' s progress. These result in bored, even resentful employees, unchallenged who may not perform at their optimum level. Some of them are too constraining on employees and can cause some to lose their creative spark. It is wise for firms to seek input from all employees when it comes to developing policies and procedures that will work. "Policy should be developed in consultation with those affected. " (Fern Richardson, June 2006) .

Company policy dictates that the decision must come from the employee' s manager. - a retail firm may have an employee who would love to run with a decision to offer a discount to a long - time customer. The manager may be new and have no idea of this person' s status as a valued customer. The result is a customer under - appreciated and an unsatisfied employee who has no decisional autonomy in his or her job. In addition, this manager has had no personal relationship with the customer to desire giving an incentive to them. A policy and procedure prevented the firm' s ability to extend goodwill to a customer helping to keep the company in business.

When applied across departments that interact with one another they may create conflict. - ineffective policies and procedures have a widespread effect on an organization as a whole. For organizational health, there must be a collaborative team approach to reaching company goals. Any policy or procedure that prevents them from doing so is a counter - productive one that needs modification. This team approach must focus on a common goal, and keeping of, the gaining customers. A certain set of operational stipulations may unknowingly favor one department over another and cause friction between departments.

Conflict between employees dampens productivity. - this will significantly reduce productive collaboration. This conflict forces employees to focus their energies on dispute resolution instead of product or service betterment. All of this of course filters down to the end user, the customer. Conflict also can produce a' who cares? ' attitude among employees which may decrease quality, whether of product or service, along with productivity. While everyone sometimes plays the fool, people, as' customers' do not.

The customer may go further and give the company bad publicity through poor word - of - mouth advertising. - they will exert final judgment by penalizing the company with a loss of sales. That is why every policy, and collaborative effort, procedure in an organization must have the end user of the company' s product or service as its focus. "Procedures are developed with the customer/ user in mind. Policies and procedures should not be an end unto themselves where a company considers adherence to them more important than customer needs. Well developed and thought out procedures provide benefits to the procedure user. " (Policy and Procedures Team UC - SC, Dec 1994) Policies and procedures should not exist as parameters that prevent employees from giving customers the level of service they desire. A customer satisfied is a customer who knows an organization has fulfilled their promises to them.

If it' s in the service sector, the service it sells will be superior to its competitors because its employees are firing on all cylinders and content. - when policies and procedures promote creativity, outside - the - box thinking, and a collaborative atmosphere then a company produces more and better product. In the end, its employees and, the company the customer wins.

These Businesses Maintain Safety Standards

Business.

More profits from controlled hazards - more profits from controlled hazards. To be successful requires communication from the top to bottom and vice versa.

Preventing injuries, and operational loses, illness is good business sense. - health and safety in the simplest sense is constant communication on bettering a particular process. Businesses that have taken the initiative to protect themselves from accidents have half the injury rates than their competitors that have not. Workplace accidents and injuries can be prevented. Businesses that have implemented effective health and safety programs not just for wanting safer workplaces, but also they want to: 1) lower costs. 2) improve employee relations and even trust. 3) improve productivity. 4) improve protection of business from down time due to injured workers. 5) improve customer relations. Some businesses operate safer than others.

All organizations can operate more safely. - these businesses maintain safety standards. These businesses have implemented proactive, health and safety, and not reactive programs. Safe operation is not left to chance. These same businesses will also be more profitable, and lead their, more innovative competitors in their fields. Liability issues can also affect the employer if it has been found that not every precaution reasonable was taken to protect the employee. Injuries cause pain and suffering and impacts the family and friends of the injured.

Financially, many sales will have to be made to overcome the costs of an injury. - hazards that can lead to a fatality can put a small and even a mid - sized company out of business. The average claim can cost a business$ 68, 00 Unseen hazards or risk can have a potential for catastrophe. These hazards can come in the form of fire, exposure to harmful, explosion materials, and being caught, falls in moving equipment. Written processes will educate the employee and even the employer of the hazards in the workplace and what needs to be done to insure safe operation. "Don' t run with scissors in your hand, " is a safety process that has been handed down through generations. These hazards must be identified and controlled by a written process. Once written, safety processes are not written in stone.

Once a month or when a question arises should suffice. - take the example above, improving this process would lead to a statement such as: "while carrying scissors carry them with tip pointed down, and away from your body. " it is important to constantly look at the safety processes to make sure they are the best they can be. Health and safety programs are not meant to stop a business from running properly. Health and safety programs should be viewed as a foundation asset of the business. It is meant to help make them run more efficient. Businesses that achieve lower injury rates have a working health and safety program in place.

They have made safe operation a business objective and these businesses have also a more profitable bottom - line.

Auditory Examples: Al Gore

Business.

Adventures in sound - listen to what i' m describing and you' ll begin to really hear the way auditory words can describe nearly anything. Soothing tones work with great success as well so by calming your voice you have more of an impact. By orienting your words to work with people who process things auditorily, you will find it deeply resonating with them.

When you tune into the way people process language, your empathy assists in the rapport building process. - my suggestion is to make some lists, one for visual, one for auditory and one for kinesthetic words and study them. Reread the first paragraph and notice that I' ve stuffed it with a bunch of auditory words so that you can begin to' hear' what they sound like and can more easily identify the type of person you' re talking to. The better you know them, the more quickly you can come up with the system in which your prospect or client is operating. First of all, an auditory person can have several vocal characteristics that are just dead giveaways. Just like we talked about ways to understand the visual person, let' s talk about ways to understand and recognize an auditory person. They may have a very sing - songy voice and you may hear them talk, a bit like you would a radio disc jockey.

There are also auditory people who have what appears to be the exact opposite way of speaking. - sometimes they' ll have a lot of affect to their words and you' ll hear them rising and falling in their pitch. This is also a very good indication of someone who is auditory and that is that they speak in a monotone voice. They will describe things thoroughly and to someone who is not auditory, it may seem tedious. They want you to listen carefully to what they' re phrasing. It' s sort of a drone and it can go on for a while.

Another way of determining this, is that you, of course will hear auditory words in their languaging. - for me, this is always a dead giveaway of an auditory person. You can also watch their eyes for hints. They cock their head to the side like as if they' re talking on the phone. Whereas a visually oriented person looks up( towards the pictures they' re creating in their mind) , the auditory person looks side to side( towards their ears) . Think back and remember a time when you watched a person talk on the phone and they cranked their head to the said while they' re talking.

They' re often leaning an ear in to try to hear better what you' re saying and to try to understand. - now think of times when you' ve been talking with someone face - to - face and they do the same thing. And when you see that, you, bingo' ve got an auditory person. They' re really not making pictures and it doesn' t really matter. Auditory people are much less concerned with how close you stand to them. To some extent, we' re all different parts of this - - sometimes people are equally visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

Auditory examples: Al Gore. - the power comes from determining which your prospect leans towards and working those words into the conversation. Regardless of how much coaching he gets, or how hard he tries, his speeches are monotone. Notice how he cocks his head and also has a monotone speech pattern. Dick Cheney.

I' M A Morning Writer And A Sports Watching Writer

Business.

Five more tips to make your brain get the write idea - once you have an idea for a book and a plan for how to get it written and marketed, it' s time to put your brain to work with some writing exercises. It' s easier to just pick it up and write for a few minutes if it' s readily available. Here are 5 more tips to help your brain get the' WRITE' idea: If you' re writing a particularly interesting or important section of your book, leave it out where you can see it.

Having your work handy also generates ideas just by looking at it. - make sure you know where your spouse puts those tidied papers! You can jot down those ideas in the margins of your work. (In our house my papers may get moved in the tidying process. Consider investing in an" inbox" for those inevitable fits of housecleaning. I' m a morning writer and a sports watching writer. That way, you will never lose something important. ) If you have kids, arrange to exchange babysitting or child watching sessions with someone to allow you to write in a large block of time during times when it' s your best time to create.

Exchanging child sitting time must be mutually beneficial. - at crucial times in the book authoring process this may be a good investment. Using this kind of arrangement also removes any guilt and frustration you might experience regarding finding and using large blocks of time. Pay someone to look after the children. This is especially true if writing is a re - creational activity for you. Pick a location that' s inspiring for you, relaxing but not distracting, and where interruptions are at a minimum. You deserve time for yourself doing what you want to do that has a positive impact on your life. Request for your birthday a weekend retreat to write your book. It could be at a friend' s house or cottage while they are away for the weekend.

This plan works just as well for a single day as it would for a weekend. - or better yet, send your family away on a great weekend vacation while you stay at home in the comfort of your own office. There are two more articles with additional strategies that put your brain to work for you, but even starting with these strategies will propel you toward success.
